If there’s one place in Toronto that knows denim, it’s Over the Rainbow. “Denim is a 32-step stitching process,” notes co-owner Daniel Carman. “And washing has many more steps to it.”
Joel, Daniel’s father, opened the Yorkville stalwart in 1975, when the area wasn’t quite as chichi as it is now and was more of a hippie hangout. After all, back then denim was a sign of rebellion. “We have a traditional aesthetic, but have modernized — we have customers that have been with us for almost 40 years,” notes Daniel. “It’s a family store.”
