In June 1963, a 19-year-old Niels Bendtsen opened a furniture store in West Vancouver in the hopes of promoting Danish design in Vancouver. Since then, Bendtsen’s enterprise has seen many changes and much growth, including a move from West Vancouver to Gastown.
Today, Nancy Bendtsen runs the company, which she co-owns with her husband Niels. No longer specific to Danish design, Inform Interiors now offers “the best design from around the world,” according to Nancy.
Nancy, who curates the collection at Inform Interiors, admits that what makes good design can be difficult to pin down. “It can be hard to define,” she says. “But I know it when I see it, and I buy what I like.” She emphasizes that Inform Interiors sells only original design, “meaning the designers profit, as they should, since this is their intellectual property, after all.”
