Over the course of his life, Jorma Tapanainen has always reaped the soothing and reinvigorating benefits of sauna use – as a youth playing sports and well into his adult years, working construction. Today, Jorma is the co-owner of Port Coquitlam's Sauna King, a company established by his father in 1972.
It was 1999 and Jorma had an epiphany while relaxing in his parents' sauna. "I wanted to bring the company back into the family (it was sold in 1981), and do something other than what my occupation as a cement mason was giving me in life. I thought about our Finnish culture and the Canadian culture and how our friends, relatives and guests who used our family sauna were completely amazed and really enjoyed the experience."
