Mark Rumsey holds a master of political science degree, but his hobby brought him to Hardcore Bikes. He worked at the shop while attending university and was one of the first employees to be hired on.
Hardcore Bikes was first opened in 1989 by founder James Moulden. Back then it was a custom bike frames shop with a retail side. When Mark joined the store as a part time student, he got his start selling parts. “James mentored me in everything, otherwise I would have been lost,” Mark says.
Mark hit a fork in the road when he graduated university. “I got my degree in the nineties, when we were in a recession,” Mark reminisces. “The job market wasn’t great, so I decided to stick it out with my hobby, which was fixing and making bikes. When the opportunity came up to buy the shop in 1997, I jumped at it.”
