The world is becoming more environmentally aware, but there are still some industries, like carpet cleaning, where green options are limited. However, EKO Carpet and Upholstery Care has positioned itself as a leader in using eco-friendly products. “We have a great product that we use exclusively. It's hypoallergenic and non-toxic; it’s all those green things that we’re looking for,” says owner Rob McLeod.
He and his wife had been recycling since they were living in Europe in the early '80s. When they started EKO Carpet and Upholstery in 2006 they knew it had to be green. “It’s a niche market that’s growing,” says Rob. “People are looking for it; they're much more aware of it.”
The solutions and products EKO Carpet and Upholstery uses are all-natural, contain no soaps or oils and are odour-free – which is a major departure from regular carpet cleaning. “It helps people with allergies, people with health problems, people who don’t like harsh chemical smells," Rob explains. "They don’t want the house smelling of cleanser for three to four days at a time.”
