For some, collecting is about passion. For others, it’s about the hunt. Whatever the reason, collecting is personal and there’s always a story behind it, says Joanne MacDonell, owner of the North Edmonton store, Diecast Depot.
As the owner of a specialty store that sells hundreds of different types of diecast model cars, trucks, and other similar type replicas, along with toys, vintage tin signs and specialty items, Joanne has a good handle on collecting. In fact, that’s where the idea for Diecast Depot was born - her husband’s love of collecting model cars led the couple to open the store in 2005.
“This is a family run store that started from a hobby,” says Joanne. “My husband liked to collect diecast but he’d have to go to two, three, four, five stores to get everything, and we just thought it would be nice to have a place to get it all in one spot.”
