$20 entree that was just aweful. Overcooked, mushy and no taste. Very politely told waitress that I had to send it back as It wasn't good and not what I expected. She seemed nice at first...said she'd see what she could do...only to come back to charge me the full price for a meal I never ate, because it was inedible. After speaking with someone...it was knocked down to half the price...but seriously...any decent restaurant would NEVER charge a patron for a meal they returned, esp with no offer for a coupon for next time or something like that! No manager visit ...and a glare when we left. I never complain at restaurants but when you work hard for your money..and you go out to dinner to be treated well...that's what you deserve!! All about customer service, and great quality for what you are paying good money for...
The sandwiches had more bread than meat. Not worth it.. The Sweet Potatoe Fries now come in a small cup instead of a dish. Alot smaller dishes for the money. Way to expensive.
Parking is almost impossible.
Had the most uninspired veggie and hummous sandwich. All I could taste was dry bread and, speaking of dry, the chocolate pecan caramel cake was dry cake with hard caramel. Not at all a decadent treat and definitely not worth the calories. I'd go somewhere else next time I'm in Westdale.
The Bean Bar is a really good low key restaurant in the Westdale neighbourhood. They provide an extensive menu with a wide variety to choose from at a reasonable price.
The food is fantastic and comes in portions that are not overwhelming where you can't finish it - just perfect. I brought my parents here to see what it was like and it exceeded their expectations.
I had the ham and maple cranberry wrap and it was terrific. Definitely hit the spot.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxed and mellow which is nice to have conversation. It's a good place for lunch or an early supper.
The staff is super friendly so the service is great. If you're ever in Westdale, it's definitely worth checking out.
I went on a bi-weekly basis with my girlfriend for almost a year. Great food, especially the french onion soup and deserts. Had only one non hit throughout all my visits.
I am a student and I love going to the bean bar. Its a nice place for students to go and enjoy affordable delicious food! I always get the T-burger, so so delicious! And the dessert is a must. There are so many different types of cakes to choose from! I love going because the atmosphere is very boho, and I feel like I am in a chic area in downtown Toronto. I always take my friends here when they come to visit. Super delicious!!
Not like the bean bar I remember years ago ! Too much bread on the grilled cheese and i setriously would not order anything else ! Too bad the food was amazing once but something is missing but not the atmosphere !
we've been here many times. my friend lives in the area. we usually come here for dinner & than head over to the pub across the street.
initially we came here because he had a huge crush on one of the waitresses.
we come here for drinks, dessert & dinner.
me- the french onion soup (amazing, super cheesy, broth is very tastey & the bake this buttery flaky pastry on top) so delicious a must try; as an entree i got the grilled cheese from heaven. it is enormous and filling. i couldn't eat all of it. tons of ooey gooey cheese. will please the cheese lover
friend #1- california chicken wrap (she loved it) & the french onion soup. (we always get the soup now every time we go there)
friend #2- moroccan stew (he loved it)
we've come here for drinks, capps & nachos. the nachos are huge and meant to be shared with 5-6 ppl. there was only 4 of one time and we could not even finish half of it.
the food is amazing here. pretty small, usually have to wait, but its great here. the waitresses are friendly as well. definitely come here when you are in the area.
can be pretty noisy especially if there is a band playing. the prices are pretty decent. they have specials on days as well. the dessert selection is excellent. there is something for everyone!!!!!
I love the Bean Bar. They have great food and service, and I love their desserts. Beverages are great. Love it - one of my absolute favourite places to be.

We frequent the Bean Bar at least 6 times a year for a full dinner. Either with my husband or with out-of-town friends. This place is great! We love the young vibe this place has. Sometimes we go after a hard week of work to just sit back with amartini and people watch.
It energizes us! The food is always great and creative. Service is very good always we never had any issues -ever. We been there at least 42 times.
Only disappointment they removed the blackened cod from the menu, it was my favorite. :(
The desserts are the best! Wow those cakes are "to die for" status for any sweet tooth, and even if you're not into sweets you just droole at the display.
I hope this place never changes. Keep up the great work.
I no longer live in Hamilton but The Bean Bar is one of my fondest memories! I love having a place with a wide variety of great food and a decent price that is appropriate for friends, dates, and families. It is always packed and so they must be doing just fine. This brings me to my only complaint. They seem to be doing well and busy most of the time, so why don't they have more servers on?? The servers always seem to be run off their feet and can't get to everyone in a timely manner and often forget things. I can't blame them since there seems to be too few of them. Also, they need better wine glasses! I feel like a child drinking out of those mini ones.
Everytime I visit the Bean Bar it is a wonderful experience. From the lighting, drink menu, and beautiful assortment of cakes to the excellent service-I would recommend Bean Bar to anyone on a first date or who wants a nice intimate dinner party. There is no shortage of things to try. A definate must for anyone visiting or living in Hamilton.
i've been twice now to the bean bar, once with 4 ppl and once with just 2.
Both times the food has been exceptional, i like the slight variations on the traditional pub like food. Wait staff has been polite and informative both times, and we didn't have a long wait to get in (which, with smaller places can sometimes happen).
would definitely go back to check out more menu options!
oh and the cake? DELISH!
the best part about this place is the deserts. too many cakes to put on a menu the staff guide you through a display tour. a little on the pricey side but definately worth it, food is very different and unique, small portions, great place to socialize
Over the years at The Bean Bar I have had great food and food that was not so great. But, I kept coming back for their sweet potato fries (which often take forever - but are usually worth the wait) and their Smoked Salmon Wraps (which at our last visit had changed and not for the better). I am usually disappointed and frustrated with their policy of not taking reservations for parties of two! Which usually means a wait of up to half hour - crammed at the door with other waiting patrons. And while the food used to be worth the wait even as far as just a few months back - it no longer is! This time around the presentation of the dishes was messy, not to mention the sandwich itself. A huge disappointment! BUT I will likely check them out again, just to give them another try at some point - they might redeem themselves...
We arrived and it was just JAMMED... we were starving and didn't want to wait very long, but luckily a table opened up just as we arrived, unfortunately it was right near the door!
Food was delicious, we were starving! It was more than enough food to fill us, we left about to explode!
Atmosphere was alright, the place was Very Busy, and thus very loud, not a great place for a quiet meal for two to chat and catch up! The waiter could hardly even hear us!
I have been going to the Bean Bar for about 10 years now. I love this place! Great for just a drink or a latte or to visit for a nice meal!

Service is a bit slow, but that's probably because the place is usually always busy!
