For many women, having to fill in their eyebrows with a coloured pencil every morning is a struggle, or a bit of a nuisance at the very least. If you have an unsteady hand, you could end up looking like a clown.

Calais Morimoto certainly understood that daily cosmetic chore very well. Her eyebrows had always been somewhat shapeless and bushy. After years of over plucking, her brows were nearly non existent. “I plucked them to hell and my mom warned me they probably wouldn’t grow back,” Calais recalls. “She was right...I had to draw them in every single day.”

Fed up with her brows, or lack thereof, Calais began researching possible solutions to her dilemma. Calais initially tried micro blading (a technique that had been done in Japan, China and the U.K. for decades), but she wasn't thrilled with the results. "For me, the micro blading did not work," she says. "I paid $500 and the colour disappeared within a few months."

Back on her computer, Calais learned all she could about micropigmentation. Micro blading is not dissimilar to micropigmentation in that both aesthetic techniques use a very small blade, but where blading is a tattoo, micropigmentation is a semi permanent make up.

Calais was certain more women like her would prefer micro pigmentation, so she attended an extensive program in Toronto to master the technique. In 2015, she founded her own studio, Browcasso Micropigmentation, in Steveston Village.
